Former President Trump Moves To Overturn Hush Money Case Following SCOTUS Immunity Ruling
According to recent reports, former President Donald Trump has moved to overturn his conviction in the hush money case brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The move follows the Supreme Court ruling from earlier this week that would determined a president has substantial immunity for official conduct while in office.
The nation’s highest court ruled in a 6-3 decision based on charges brought against former President Trump by special counsel Jack Smith surrounding the January 6, 2021, Capitol protests in Washington, D.C. Following the ruling from the conservative majority bench, Trump’s legal team has sought to challenge the Manhattan case.
Trump was handed a guilty verdict from the Manhattan jury last month, convicting him of all 34 felony counts relating to the falsification of business documents about hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee has maintained his innocence in the wake of the conviction.
The former president’s team requested permission to file a motion to set aside the conviction and delay sentencing, initially scheduled for next week on July 11. Furthermore, Trump’s lawyers argued in the letter sent to Judge Juan Merchan, who presides over the case, that there was evidence included in the trial that should not have been admitted.
Following the request, NBC News reported on Tuesday that Judge Merchan delayed Trump’s July 11 sentencing in the aftermath of the bombshell Supreme Court ruling. The sentencing hearing has now been rescheduled to September 18 at the earliest. The delay implies that Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, will likely secure the GOP nomination later this month before the hearing.
In the wake of the landmark SCOTUS decision, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to celebrate the major judicial victory. In one post, he suggested that all “Crooked Joe Biden’s” politically motivated “witch hunts” against him should be nullified. He voiced that he is “PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN” following the decision in his favor.
“Today’s Historic Decision by the Supreme Court should end all of Crooked Joe Biden’s Witch Hunts against me, including the New York Hoaxes – The Manhattan SCAM cooked up by Soros backed D.A., Alvin Bragg, Racist New York Attorney General Tish James’ shameless ATTACK on the amazing business that I have built, and the FAKE Bergdorf’s “case.” PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!” Trump wrote.
Trump added in a second Truth Social post, emphasizing his belief that the decision from the nation’s highest court will put many of the cases brought against him to rest. He doubled down on claims he has consistently made calling the legal battles “hoaxes,” “fake cases,” and “unfair attacks” that are being orchestrated by the Biden administration to thwart Trump’s campaign.

IT IS BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN AND WISE, AND CLEARS THE STENCH FROM THE BIDEN TRIALS AND HOAXES, ALL OF THEM, THAT HAVE BEEN USED AS AN UNFAIR ATTACK ON CROOKED JOE BIDEN’S POLITICAL OPPONENT, ME. MANY OF THESE FAKE CASES WILL NOW DISAPPEAR, OR WITHER INTO OBSCURITY. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Trump proclaimed.
